Nkwabeng, (Bono East) Nov. 05, GNA-The Women and Youth in Beekeeping Value Chain Ghana (WYN-BiG), a non-government organisation (NGO) has offered employable skills training to 30 vulnerable young people in the Bono East Region.
They were trained in bee-keeping, detergent production to fetch jobs for themselves and enhance their livelihoods.
Beyond the training, they were also taken through entrepreneurial and financial discipline, business planning and marketing strategies.
Mr Richard Kwei Mensah Oko, the Founder of the NGO said the organisation sought to provide employable skills training for 600 young people, especially women in the region.
He explained that the WYN-BiG worked to empower vulnerable young people between 18 years and 25 years to contribute meaningfully to societal development.
Mr Oko said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the training at Nkwabeng in the Nkoranza South Municipality of the Bono East Region.
He said that beneficiaries would be selected from 20 communities across the region, adding that the NGO aimed at creating job opportunities alongside promoting environmental conservation.
Mr Oko added that the training reflected the WYN-BiG’s commitment to empowering women and unemployed youth through practical skills training and sustainable economic opportunities.
The WYN-BiG targets women and youth in rural communities who face systemic barriers to economic opportunities, he stated.
He said training the beneficiaries in sustainable beekeeping and agroforestry would not only give them financial independence but position them well to promote environmental sustainability.
Mr Oko urged the beneficiaries to take the training seriously and acquired the requisite knowledge needed to grow their economic activities.
Mr Isaac Kwabena Amoh, one of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the NGO for the opportunity.
