Accra, Nov. 5, GNA – Mr. Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech Limited (MMFL) has retained the Fintech CEO of the Year award for the second consecutive year at the 2026 Ghana CEO Vision and Awards.

The recognition celebrates his leadership in steering MMFL’s transition into a dedicated fintech business and strengthening industry collaboration in Ghana’s digital financial services sector.

Mr Haruna had earlier in the year received the same honour at the MTN Group Global Leadership Gathering, further consolidating his recognition within the fintech industry.

A major highlight of his leadership in 2026 was the structural separation of Scancom PLC’s mobile money business, which took effect on March 31, with Mr Haruna overseeing the transition as Chief Executive Officer of MMFL.

The statutory merger of MobileMoney Limited into MMFL was aimed at positioning the business for focused fintech growth while meeting localisation requirements under the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987).

The company also recorded significant growth, with MoMo revenue increasing by 35.7 per cent in 2025 and its active user base reaching 19.3 million.

Revenue growth continued in the first half of 2026, driven by basic services, digital payments and lending.

Beyond corporate growth, Mr Haruna had been a strong advocate for a more collaborative and trusted fintech ecosystem, pushing for stronger consumer protection in digital lending, interoperability and shared financial infrastructure.

At the 3i Africa Summit, he highlighted the need for industry players to strengthen consumer safeguards and build an enabling environment for sustainable digital financial services.

The Chief Executive also championed collaboration through the Fintech Partner Exchange, which brought stakeholders together to address digital fraud and promote information sharing.

On emerging financial technologies, Mr Haruna called for stronger partnerships between banks and fintech companies to develop services around Ghana’s existing mobile money infrastructure, particularly in digital assets, virtual assets and tokenisation.

His contribution to industry development also extended to media engagement, where he used the Fintech Media Development Series to equip Journalists with knowledge of fintech strategy, financial inclusion, cybersecurity and consumer protection.

The initiative sought to strengthen accurate reporting on the sector and deepen public confidence in digital financial services.

Mr Haruna also prioritised the development of future talent through the MoMo Fintech Lab, a nationwide initiative organised by MMFL in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and other fintech ecosystem players.

The programme provides opportunities for students, developers, entrepreneurs, startups and innovators to transform ideas into practical financial solutions.

At the Ghana CEO Vision and Awards High-Level Dialogue, he further advocated the use of digital financial records to improve access to credit, savings and investment opportunities.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr Haruna expressed appreciation to the organisers, while acknowledging the contribution of his team and industry partners.

“I am honoured to receive this award for the second consecutive year. I share this recognition with the MMFL team and our partners across the fintech ecosystem.

We remain committed to building trusted financial services, strengthening collaboration and nurturing the talent that will shape the future of fintech in Ghana,” he said.
