Asutsuare, Nov. 02, GNA — Mr Umaru Sanda Amadu, a broadcast journalist and newly qualified lawyer, has launched the Umaru Sanda Foundation to promote community development and support educational advancement in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.
As part of the launch, held at the Asutsuare Junction School Park on Sunday, Mr Amadu donated 3,000 exercise books to assembly members in the area for distribution to selected schools.
The foundation is expected to support access to basic amenities, promote education, and inspire young people to pursue their aspirations.
The ceremony, held under the theme, “Beyond the Limit,” also celebrated Mr Amadu’s recent call to the Ghana Bar, marking his entry into the legal profession after years of academic and professional pursuits.
Addressing the gathering, he said the occasion was an opportunity to express gratitude to the community and individuals whose contributions helped shape his educational journey.
He recounted his childhood as a cattle herder in the area, saying he initially attended school without a clear vision of what he wanted to become.
“I was attending school without any vision or aspirations, just going to the classroom to dodge the cowboy responsibility. After senior high school, I had to hustle by selling mobile phones, charging devices and showing films for a living, still without any vision because I could not make it into the teaching profession,” he said.
He stated that his interest in radio broadcasting later inspired him to pursue journalism at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, where he developed his passion for the media profession.
Mr Amadu said his subsequent decision to pursue law had culminated in his admission to the Ghana Bar, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in his life.
He appealed to individuals and organisations to support the foundation to enable it to extend its interventions to more communities and beneficiaries.
Mr Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, former Speaker of Parliament, said Mr Amadu’s journey demonstrated that one’s background or place of origin should not determine their future.
He said success depended largely on an individual’s determination, commitment, and ability to make the best use of available opportunities.
Mr Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, commended Mr Amadu for his respectful conduct and ability to build relationships, which he said had contributed to the gathering of dignitaries and other personalities at the event.
He encouraged young people to cultivate good values and maintain relationships that would positively influence their personal development.
Nene Kweku-Otiti Animle VII, Paramount Chief of the Osudoku Traditional Area, appealed to the government to improve roads in the district to facilitate movement and promote development.
Nene Nagai Kassa VIII, Paramount Chief of the Shai Traditional Area, chaired the ceremony.
Other dignitaries included Mr Daniel Keshi Bessey, Member of Parliament for Sege; Mr Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and MP for Ningo-Prampram; Mr Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports; and other traditional leaders, public officials and community members.
