Tema, Nov. 02, GNA — The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Tema Region, has replaced 14 faulty transformers across six districts within its operational area to improve electricity supply to customers.

The replacements, carried out between October 28 and November 1, 2026, involved transformers with capacities ranging from 100kVA to 200kVA, which had developed faults and affected the power supply.

The exercise covered the Krobo, Ada, Prampram, Afienya, Tema North and Nungua districts, out of the nine districts operated by the Tema Region.

Mr Jonathan K. Adjabeng (Engineer), Tema Regional General Manager of ECG, said some of the transformers had developed faults due to technical challenges and illegal electricity connections.

“We have had challenges with supply due to faulty transformers, some of which became faulty due to technical challenges and illegal connections,” he said.

He noted that the region remained committed to its mandate of providing safe, reliable and quality electricity supply to customers.

Mr Adjabeng said the ECG remained with the committee to resolve power challenges affecting the company in the region even though some of the challenges were beyond its control.

He said the transformer replacement exercise formed part of efforts to support the region’s high- and medium-voltage network.
