Accra, Nov. 6, GNA – The Ghana Police Service has urged motorists and vehicle owners to verify traffic violation notifications before making payments under the TraffiTech-GH automated system.
Commissioner of Police (COP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director-General of Public Affairs, Ghana Police Service, gave the caution in a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday.
She said the TraffiTech-GH project, which automated the enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations, officially took effect on November 1, 2026.
COP Ansah-Akrofi advised motorists to first check that traffic violation notifications came from the official sender ID, GPS-MTTD, noting that genuine notices would not be sent from ordinary mobile phone numbers.
“They should also open the Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) or ticket to verify the vehicle’s photograph and registration number, as well as the location, date and time of the alleged offence,” she said.
“Where available, they should also watch the accompanying video.”
For payments, motorists were required to use the NIB Payment Portal by selecting “Make Payment”, entering the ticket number, verifying the details and following the prompts.
Alternatively, they may pay through USSD by dialling *710*0# and following the prompts using their ticket number.
She cautioned the public against paying traffic fines into personal mobile money numbers or through unofficial accounts to avoid falling victim to fraud.
“For assistance or further enquiries, motorists may call 059 692 2402,” COP Ansah-Akrofi said.
She expressed appreciation to motorists, vehicle owners and transport operators for their cooperation in promoting road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
