Sunyani, (Bono), Nov. 4, GNA – Dr Mrs Vida Korang, a Senior Lecturer at the Catholic University (CUG) has advised women to take deliberate steps and develop themselves for better opportunities ahead.Ā

She gave the advice when speaking at the Sunyani Women Summit (SWoS ā€˜2026’, organised by the WENSAH Foundation in Sunyani.

The foundation is a-Sunyani based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works to promote women empowerment, business and community development.

Dr Mrs Korang highlighted the relevance of education, advising that ā€œbeing a mother should not be a barrier to education and personal developmentā€.

She noted that women had the ability to combine motherhood with studies and career growth and to ā€œbecome equal partners with menā€, saying that ā€œa woman can still be a mother and study to move along and grab every opportunity that comes on their wayā€.

Dr Mrs Korang stressed that the world was advancing, noting that: ā€œWomen who fail to upgrade themselves will be left behindā€, and encouraged women to strive to achieve high academic laurels.

ā€œWe can enroll in schools, take short courses, learn a trade, acquire digital skills and constantly improve our knowledge baseā€, she advised.

Dr Mrs Korang noted that when women built themselves, they gained confidence, became financially independent, and were able to contribute meaningfully to family decision making process and national development.

She said that: ā€œAn educated mother is better placed to train her children and guide them to become responsible citizensā€.
Dr Mrs Korang said that husbands required better wives and not dependents, saying that for women to be seen as proper partners, they ought to be knowledgeable, skilled and economically empowered.

She called on the government, NGOs and corporate institutions to create more opportunities for women to further their education, access funding for businesses and take up leadership responsibilities as well.

Dr Mrs Korang also cautioned young women not to rush into marriage at the expense of their education, urging them to pursue their dreams.

The event brought together women from diverse backgrounds and discussed issues affecting their well-being, business growth and social development.Ā
