Accra, Nov. 04, GNA – Dr Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, has urged young people to define leadership by the impact they make on people and society rather than their positions, titles or status.
He said leadership was not a title to be worn but a duty requiring active involvement, dedication and the achievement of results.
The Chief of Staff said this when Mr Seth Terkpe, Economic Advisor to the President, delivered a speech on his behalf at the 17th YPYC Africa Transformation Summit held at the University of Ghana on the theme: “Leadership in Action: Breaking Barriers and Building Success.”
Dr Debrah urged young people not to wait for favourable conditions before taking up leadership responsibilities, but to create the conditions necessary for success and overcome self-doubt.
He encouraged them to move beyond, making suggestions to developing practical solutions to challenges facing society.
The summit, which was organised under the tutelage of Dr Andy Osei Okrah, Founder and President, Young Professional and Youth Coalition (YPYC) brought together young people from across the country and some tertiary institutions.
Dr Osei Okrah, said leaders were made, not born, stressing that leadership was developed through learning, experience and deliberate practice.
He acknowledged YPYC’s 17-year journey and achievements in youth development, emphasising the need for leadership was translated into action and made a positive impact on communities.
He urged young people to draw inspiration from role models, embrace service, and work towards building lasting legacies through meaningful contributions to society.
Prof. Dartey Baah said success would come through discipline, consistency, integrity, continuous learning and the willingness to rise after every setback, adding that leadership started with a renewed sense of purpose.
He urged the participants, especially the young people not to disregard the power of role model and their attitude, noting that “your certificate will get you a job, but your competence, character and capacity to solve problems determine how far you go.”
The summit saw many astute personalities including young people making some impact in society awarded and some of the awardees include Mr Samuel Maamgima, a university student who developed a machine within the energy space, Mr Mohammed Nurudeen, CEO, Northshore Apparel Gh.
