Accra, Nov. 04, GNA – About 140 amateur golfers across Africa will compete in the fifth edition of the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament scheduled for November 21, 2026, at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra.

This year’s tournament, held in honour of President John Dramani Mahama, is themed: “Driving National Growth Through Leadership, Partnership and Golf.”

The event was officially launched at the Achimota Golf Clubhouse on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, with sponsors, partners, club officials and members of the media in attendance.

Mr Francis Andoh, Coordinator of the tournament, said the competition sought to make an impact beyond the golf course through community outreach initiatives and youth development programmes.

According to him, the Head of State Foundation would use the platform to create opportunities for young people through golf while supporting vulnerable communities.

“Our commitment extends beyond the course. Through the Head of State Foundation, we seek to support community outreach and create opportunities for young people through golf,” he said.

The tournament is headlined by First National Bank and supported by several corporate organisations, including BOST Energies, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Guinness Ghana, Coca-Cola Ghana, Samsung Ghana, Myla Homes and Aphro Ghana.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Mike Aggrey, General Secretary of the African Golf Confederation and a member of the Board of Trustees of Achimota Golf Club, said the tournament was established in 2017 as a non-partisan and not-for-profit initiative.

He said the competition was designed to bring together leaders from government, business and industry in a relaxed environment to foster networking and discussion on national development.

“The idea is to create a platform where leaders can engage and build relationships outside the formal office environment,” he said.

Mr Aggrey noted that over the years the tournament had provided opportunities for decision-makers and business leaders to discuss economic, social and political issues affecting the country.

He said the invitational event, which is reserved for amateur golfers, targets chief executive officers, board chairpersons and other leaders in the corporate sector.

According to him, previous editions of the tournament had facilitated strategic partnerships and business opportunities that contributed to national development.

Mr Aggrey cited the 2018 edition in Kumasi, which attracted ministers of state and industry leaders, as an example of how the competition had created a platform for direct engagement between policymakers and investors.

He expressed confidence that this year’s tournament would further strengthen collaboration among stakeholders while promoting the growth of golf in Ghana.
