Assin North DCE appeals for District Court to Improve access to Justice, fight crime

By Samuel Ackon, GNA

Assin Bereku (C/R), Nov 02, GNA – Mr Sylvester Amakye Nyarkoh, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Assin North, has appealed to the government, philanthropists and well-meaning institutions to support the establishment of a district court for the area.

He said this would help improve access to justice and combat crime in the area.

Mr Nyarkoh made the appeal during a meeting with Assembly Members at the Assin North District Assembly, citing the district’s growing population, concerns about crime and the absence of a local court.

The DCE said residents were compelled to travel to Assin Fosu or Assin Darmang to access judicial services, imposing additional financial and logistical burden on complainants, witnesses and other parties involved in court cases.

Mr Nyarkoh noted that, establishing a court in the district would bring justice closer to residents, facilitate the handling of criminal and civil cases, and complement the work of law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order.

He therefore called on stakeholders to support efforts to establish the facility, to ensure residents had easier and more affordable access to justice.

The Presiding Member of the Assin North District Assembly, Mr Mark Nti Ballack, also raised concerns over the growing threat posed by speeding vehicles on the Assin Bereku stretch, revealing that 12 people in his electoral area alone had lost their lives in road crashes in recent times.

He described the situation as a serious concern for public safety and called on the Ghana Highway Authority to urgently install speed ramps at strategic locations to compel motorists to slow down and prevent further loss of lives.
