Akoon (W/R), November 05, GNA-Mr. Joshua Donkor, the Supply Chain Manager for Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL), has advised suppliers not to build their businesses around one Mine.
He said beyond mining, every Mine had a life cycle, contracts ended and commodity prices moved, but a supplier whose entire business depended on a single Mine or customer was not resilient, regardless of its current performance.
Addressing local and international suppliers at the 2026 Gold Fields Suppliers conference held in Akoon, Mr Donkor said they wanted to shift the local content conversation towards retaining economic value which involved five things.
He mentioned the focused areas as transferable skill, inclusive participation, value across the full mining life cycle, more customers and wider markets, and innovation in technology, tools, data, and low carbon solutions.
For Gold Fields, Mr. Donkor explained, partnership was being a reliable customer, sharing plans transparently, treating suppliers fairly, paying promptly, and ensuring lasting value for host communities beyond contracts and Mine life.
He stated that for suppliers, partnership required adherence to world-class standards in safety, quality, governance and Environmental Social and Development principles performance, and the development of businesses capable of competing on merit.
According to him, local content regulations had created opportunities for Ghanaians, but compliance was only the beginning, not the destination.
He added that enduring value was created when Ghanaian suppliers competed on quality and reliability, served beyond one Mine, and became national and international champions.
He said the government and regulators must maintain clear, stable and fairly enforced policies to ensure genuine Ghanaian businesses benefited.
Mr. Donkor noted that building a resilient supply chain required commitment and announced that Gold Fields would grow its women-led businesses by 10 per cent.
He recalled making a similar commitment the last time they met, and said they still wanted to encourage more women to be part of the journey.
