Accra, Nov. 02, GNA – The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) at the Savannah College of Education, Daboya, have suspended their sit-down strike over delays in the migration of staff.
The suspension, which took effect on November 1, 2026, follows interventions by the Savannah Regional Minister and other stakeholders to resolve the concerns raised by the unions.
The stakeholders include the North Gonja District Chief Executive, traditional leaders, the Savannah Regional Director of Education, College Management and the North Gonja District Police Commander.
In a joint statement signed by Mr Franklin Aguri, CETAG Chairperson, and Mr Abdul Rahim, CENTSAG Chairman, the unions said the Regional Minister had engaged the staff on behalf of the President and assured them that their outstanding concerns would receive the necessary attention.
The statement said subsequent engagements between the leadership of the two unions and College Management had also yielded some progress towards resolving the issues.
It said the unions had agreed to suspend the industrial action to allow ongoing consultations and negotiations to continue.
As part of efforts to resolve the impasse, the leadership of both unions had been invited to meet with the Director-General and the Director of Budget of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The meeting is expected to clarify the next steps and establish a clear roadmap and timelines for completing the staff migration process, particularly regarding the 15 limited clearances.
The statement directed all members to resume their normal duties from November 1, 2026.
It, however, stressed that the suspension of the strike should not be interpreted as a resolution of the underlying concerns, which remained matters of serious concern to the unions.
The joint leadership said it would closely monitor the implementation of the assurances given, assess progress made and keep members informed of subsequent developments.
It expressed appreciation to the Savannah Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament for the Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency, the North Gonja District Chief Executive, regional and district directors of education, traditional leaders, the District Police Command, College Management and other stakeholders for their interventions.
The unions also commended their members for their solidarity, patience and cooperation throughout the industrial action, as well as the media for publicising their concerns.
They reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing a timely, fair and amicable resolution in the best interests of staff, students and the Savannah College of Education.
