Accra, Nov. 02, GNA – The Ghana Police Service has on November 1, 2026, rolled out TraffiTech as announced, after fixing cameras at vantage points.
TraffiTech is an automated evidence system that uses cameras to detect speeding and issues fines.
It is to enforce traffic laws and improve road safety, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alex Kwaku Obeng said.
He attributed 50 to 62 per cent of road fatalities or serious crashes to speeding.
He said the Police had deployed the technology to deter drivers who resort to excessive speeding to desist from the practice.
ACP Obeng said non-compliance to the speed limits by drivers will lead to tickets issued to owners of vehicles whose names had been registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licence Authority (DVLA) for fines.
There are mixed reactions among drivers after the introduction of TraffiTech, whilst some drivers deem it fit to check traffic nuisance, others have criticised it.
To some drivers, speed limits should be displayed to remind drivers in order not to flout the regulations.
Some commercial drivers have also threatened not to work as they believe the system would not be fair to them.
