Accra, Nov. 2, GNA – The Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly possessing 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at the VIP Bus Terminal, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra.
The suspect, Roger Borbobli, was arrested on October 29, 2026, following intelligence that he had been sighted at the terminal with three suitcases containing the suspected substances, a police statement said on Sunday.
The statement said some loading boys at the terminal detected an unusual smell coming from the suitcases and alerted the Police.
Officers who responded to the alert arrested the suspect and retrieved the three suitcases, which contained 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect reportedly valued the substances at GH¢33,600.
During interrogation, Borbobli said he was a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta North Region.
He allegedly told investigators that although he cultivated Indian hemp, he had acquired the parcels from another farmer, identified only as Benjamin, from the same community.
The Police said the exhibits would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis.
The suspect remains in Police custody assisting investigations and is expected to be arraigned.
