Accra, Nov. 6, GNA – Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip, has called on Parliamentary leadership to address alleged delays in scheduling motions arising from completed committee reports.Â
Speaking on the Floor of Parliament on Thursday, Mr Annoh-Dompreh said, “Several committees had completed work on referrals and submitted their reports, but the corresponding motions were yet to be scheduled for consideration.”
He cited the Local Government Committee and the Health Committee as examples of Committees that had submitted reports on various referrals without the motions being listed for debate.
“Mr. Speaker, I am aware of committees that have completed their works… Reports have been submitted, but motions are not being scheduled to be taken on the floor,” he said.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh, also the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, suggested closer communication between the Table Office and the Whips, particularly the Majority Whip, to determine why completed reports were allegedly not translating into business on the Floor.
“Mr. Speaker, in the case of Collins-Dauda’s matter, that report is ready. Before we rose, the report was ready, and then the former Majority Leader said that we should do some consultation,” he said.
On a separate matter, Mr Annoh-Dompreh raised concerns about the absence of the Attorney-General and his deputy in the House to lay a paper requiring the Attorney-General’s attention.
He argued that where the Attorney-General was unable to attend, the Deputy Attorney-General should be available to represent the office to avoid delays in parliamentary business.
“Mr. Speaker, if the Attorney-General is not here, his deputy must be here,” he said, appealing to leadership to contact the Deputy Attorney-General to attend to the matter.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh said the House should ensure that its procedures were followed and that government business was handled in a timely manner.
