Cape Coast, Oct. 28, GNA – Ms Vivian Sortoh, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) elected women’s organiser for Komenda-Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) has pledged to prioritise women’s empowerment, grassroots mobilisation and unity to strengthen the women’s wing of her party in the Central Region.
She said her vision was to build a vibrant, inclusive and united women’s wing that would provide opportunities for women to participate actively in political decision-making, leadership and community development.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on her aspirations for the next constituency executive team, Ms Sortoh said women remained a powerful force in political organisations and must be adequately empowered and supported to contribute meaningfully to the growth and electoral success of the party.
She said her leadership would focus on equipping women with employable skills, promoting entrepreneurship and facilitating educational opportunities to improve their economic independence and livelihoods.
“Women are a powerful force in every political organisation, and when they are united, motivated and adequately supported, they can contribute immensely to the success of that organisation,” she stated.
Ms Sortoh said grassroots mobilisation would be central to her administration, with particular attention to women at the electoral area, polling station and community levels.
She explained that strengthening the women’s wing at the grassroots would not only increase women’s participation in party activities but also ensure that their concerns were adequately represented in decision-making processes.
She pledged to work closely with electoral area coordinators, polling station organisers and other constituency executives to establish an effective communication network that would facilitate information-sharing and provide opportunities for women to express their concerns.
Ms Sortoh said she would also prioritise the welfare of women by identifying their pressing challenges and collaborating with the constituency leadership to find practical and sustainable solutions.
On youth inclusion, she expressed concern about the need to encourage more young women to develop an interest in political leadership and decision-making.
The Women’s Organiser said mentoring and creating leadership opportunities for young women would help nurture a new generation of confident and dedicated female political leaders capable of contributing to the development of the constituency and the nation at large.
Ms Sortoh further pledged to promote peace, unity and teamwork among women and the wider party membership, stressing that internal cohesion was critical to achieving the party’s political objectives.
She said differences among party members should not undermine their collective responsibility to strengthen the party and advance the welfare of its members.
“Leadership is not merely about holding a position but about serving people, inspiring others and creating lasting positive change,” she noted.
Ms Sortoh added that accountability, transparency, humility and dedication would be the guiding principles of her leadership, assuring women in the constituency that their voices and contributions were valued.
She expressed her commitment to working collaboratively with all party structures to strengthen women’s participation in political activities and promote the party’s policies and programmes.
“My ultimate aspiration is to see a united, empowered and vibrant women’s wing in the KEEA Constituency, where every woman has a voice and an opportunity to contribute to the development of our party,” she stated.
She further expressed optimism that a well-organised and economically empowered women’s wing would contribute significantly to the party’s electoral fortunes and the overall development of the constituency.
She appealed for cooperation and collective commitment among party members to build a stronger and more successful women’s wing in KEEA.
