Kumasi, Oct. 24, GNA – The MTN Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have entered into a partnership to provide Computer Science students with internship and employment opportunities while promoting innovation in the technology sector.
The collaboration is expected to enable students to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges in the telecommunications industry, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology.
Under the agreement, students will develop solutions to technical and operational challenges presented by MTN Ghana as part of their final-year projects.
The company will also provide industry-led training, internships and opportunities for outstanding graduates to join its workforce.
Mr Kwame Adu Manu, the Senior Manager for Digital Analytics and Monetisation at the MTN Ghana, said the partnership was intended to strengthen the relationship between academic institutions and industry.
“We want to bridge that gap between industry and academia,” he said.
Mr Manu said the initiative would also encourage students to develop technologies capable of addressing local challenges.
“We want to build solutions for Africa, for ourselves, for Ghana to solve our own problems,” he said.
He said MTN would support students working on AI projects and provide opportunities for them to interact with professionals in the telecommunications industry.
The partnership would also promote female participation in technology through scholarships and recognition for outstanding female Computer Science graduates.
Prof Christian Agyare, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, welcomed the collaboration, saying it would strengthen practical training and expose students to the demands of the technology industry.
He said the partnership would help prepare graduates for employment while creating opportunities for collaborative research and innovation.
The initiative would be managed jointly by MTN Ghana and the university’s Department of Computer Science, with a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess its progress and outcomes.
