Accra, Oct. 5, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) is expanding its capacity for complex skull base surgery through a specialist collaboration with Mali.
The collaboration has enabled the hospital’s Neurosurgery Unit to undertake complex skull base procedures while transferring specialised surgical skills to its local team through hands-on training, case discussions and clinical consultations.
The hospital said in a Facebook post that Professor Oumar Diallo, a Malian Consultant Neurosurgeon specialising in skull base and minimally invasive surgery, had been working with the Neurosurgery team for several weeks.
It said the engagement had focused on minimally invasive approaches to complex skull base surgery, with positive outcomes recorded from procedures undertaken.
The hospital said members of its Neurosurgery team were gaining practical experience in specialised techniques and exploring opportunities for further training, research and professional exchange.
It said the collaboration formed part of efforts to strengthen specialist healthcare delivery through knowledge exchange and professional partnerships with experts across the region.
Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, recently joined the Neurosurgery team in the operating theatre during the collaboration.
Dr Leslie Issa Adam-Zakariah, Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, expressed appreciation to Dr Akoriyea for his support towards strengthening specialist healthcare services.
He said sustained professional development and knowledge sharing were essential to building the capacity of healthcare professionals and improving the quality of specialist care available to patients.
The hospital said the collaboration would contribute to developing local expertise in advanced neurosurgical care while creating opportunities for specialist training, research and professional exchange.
