Pete Edochie receives inaugural Pan-African Legacy Project honour

Accra, Oct. 08, GNA – Renowned Nigerian actor Pete Edochie has become the first non-Ghanaian personality to be honoured under the Legacy Project, an initiative by King-Dawie Publishing, celebrating individuals who have made significant contributions to the creative arts industry.

The project, which has over the past two years recognised distinguished Ghanaian personalities, is expanding its reach across Africa, with Nigeria becoming the first destination in its Pan-African chapter.

Pete Edochie received the honour at a ceremony held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, where actors, cultural leaders, politicians and other dignitaries gathered to celebrate his contribution to African cinema.

Explaining the decision to honour the celebrated Nigerian actor, Mr Kelvin King-Dawie, Project Manager of King-Dawie Publishing Limited, said Edochie’s remarkable career and enduring influence on the continent’s film industry made him a deserving recipient.

“I take delight in celebrating people. Looking at his life and the contributions he has made to African cinema, I felt he was well positioned to be celebrated. Besides, a lot of people love him,” he said.

Several speakers at the event paid glowing tributes to the veteran actor, describing him as an inspiration to generations of African performers.

Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah said Pete Edochie played a fatherly role to many actors and had remained supportive throughout his career.

“I grew up watching him and was fortunate to work with him on several productions. He always checks on people and offers advice on set. When I heard about this programme, I knew I had to be here,” she said.

Dr Angela Harris, Executive Producer of The Black I Am International Awards, commended Edochie for combining professional success with humanitarian and philanthropic work.

“He understands that life is not only about personal success. He is selfless and impactful in many ways,” she said.

As part of the ceremony, awards were presented to veteran actors Grace Omaboe, Fred Amugi and Pete Edochie by Dr Maxwell Nana Yaw Palasco Boakye, Western Regional Representative on Ghana’s Council of State, in recognition of their contributions to the growth of African cinema.

Expressing appreciation for the honour, Edochie thanked organisers and Ghanaians for the warm reception.

“Each time I receive an invitation to Ghana, I am delighted. I don’t know what to say. Thank you very much,” he said.
