Kumasi, Oct. 23, GNA – A total of 2,724 aspirants are contesting various executive positions in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries across the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region.

Professor Joseph Oteng-Adjei, the Ashanti Regional Director of Elections of the NDC, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi.

He said the elections would involve the selection of constituency executives to fill 25 positions in each constituency, including chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, deputy secretary, organiser, deputy organiser, treasurer, deputy treasurer, communication officer and deputy communication officer.

Other positions include Zongo Caucus Coordinator, women organiser and deputy women organiser, youth organiser and deputy youth organiser, as well as other youth representatives.

Professor Oteng Adjei said all 47 constituencies in the region would participate in the elections scheduled for Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, with the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission responsible for security and the conduct of the polls, respectively.

He urged party members and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully, cautioning against intimidation, violence and acts of hooliganism in support of candidates.

He also warned individuals who encouraged or sponsored acts of intimidation, threats or attacks against opponents that they could be held accountable for their actions.

Prof. Oteng-Adjei said aspirants and their supporters should recognise that elections were won through persuasion, credibility and the confidence of delegates, rather than coercion.

He called for unity among party members before, during and after the elections, saying that cohesion within the party was essential to its prospects of winning the 2028 general elections.
