Accra, Oct. 12, GNA – The Ministry of Education is meeting the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on Monday for an urgent meeting to resolve the ongoing industrial action.

The meeting is expected to provide a platform for constructive dialogue towards an amicable resolution of the impasse.

In a press statement signed by Mr Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary of the Ministry, said the Government remained committed to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement.

The statement called on all parties to approach the meeting in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, considering the impact of the industrial action on students, university communities and the broader national interest.

It urged the leadership of GAUA to seize the opportunity for meaningful engagement and work collaboratively with the relevant stakeholders towards an early resolution of the dispute.

The statement expressed optimism that the meeting would yield a positive outcome and facilitate a swift return to normal academic and administrative activities across the affected tertiary institutions.

The GAUA declared its nationwide strike on Friday, August 7, 2026, during its National Congress in Sunyani.

The Association attributed the strike to unfair terms of salaries, allowances and conditions of service compared with teaching staff in the public Universities.

The strike has disrupted university administration and has contributed to the postponement of the 2026/2027 academic year reopening at the University of Ghana  and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
