Cape Coast, Oct. 25, GNA – Mr Kwesi Walker, a former National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman of the Cape Coast North Constituency has recapture the position after securing a decisive victory in the party’s constituency executive elections.
Mr Walker polled 371 votes to defeat his main contender, Mr Bright Edem Drofenu, who obtained 170 votes.
The results gave Mr Walker a commanding lead of 201 votes difference over his closest challenger, marking his return to the constituency’s top leadership position.
The incumbent Secretary, Mr Fred Kweku Appiah bagged 277 votes to beat his contender, Mr Godfred Onso-Nyameye who had 881 votes.
Mr Dauda Ibrahim Mohammed pulled 167 votes to win the deputy secretary position as against his opponent John Arthur who got 136.
The election brought together a total of 1,231 delegates to elect 24 executive positions from 64 aspirants to steer the affairs of the party at the constituency level.
Voting, however, commenced later than scheduled following logistical challenges, including the late arrival of ballot papers, which delayed the electoral process.
Despite the initial challenges, delegates participated in the exercise to elect their preferred candidates to lead the party.
Mr Walker’s victory signals renewed confidence in his leadership among the delegates who voted for him.
His return to office comes as the party seeks to strengthen its grassroots structures, promote unity among members and consolidate its political fortunes in the Cape Coast North Constituency.
The newly elected executives are expected to work towards strengthening internal party cohesion, mobilising supporters and advancing the NDC’s activities within the constituency.
