Ho (V/R), Oct. 08, GNA – Professor Ben Honyenuga, the Vice Chancellor of the Ho Technical University (HTU), has announced plans for the University to integrate circular economy principles into its academic programmes to equip students with relevant skills for the emerging sector.
He said beginning from the next academic year, every lecturer would be expected to incorporate at least one or two circular economy-related learning outcomes into their courses to support the transition towards a circular economy.
He made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the maiden Ghana Circular Economy Annual Conference 2026, organised by the Ghana Circular Economy Centre (GCEC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in partnership with Global Affairs Canada hosted by HTU in Ho.
Prof Honyenuga said the University had developed relevant curricula and would roll out a number of short certificate and professional development courses in circular economy-related areas.
He said beyond the classroom, the HTU was leveraging the Ghana Circular Economy Centre project to strengthen its work in innovation, entrepreneurship and technology development through its incubation programme and innovation spaces.
“Through our incubation programme and innovation spaces, we are supporting the ideation, piloting, testing and validation of circular economy innovations and business models,” he said.
Prof Honyenuga said the initiative was creating a connected pathway from education and skills development to research, enterprise creation and the practical application of circular economy solutions.
He therefore called for collaboration among academia, industry, government and other stakeholders to accelerate the development and adoption of practical circular economy solutions in Ghana.
