Global grain trade projected to decline in current harvest season – FAO

Moscow, Oct 2 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) forecast on Friday a 3.5% decline in global grain trade by the end of the 2026-2027 agricultural season, which began in July.

“The forecast for world trade in cereals in 2026/27 (July/June) stands at 505.8 million tonnes, down 18.3 million tonnes (3.5 percent) from the previous season,” the statement read.

The previous forecast figure was 509.3 million tonnes.

Exports of wheat and corn are forecast to decline more than previously expected. The forecast for global wheat trade is now 195.4 million tonnes, rather than the 197.2 million expected in September.

International rice trade is projected to decline by 2.2% in 2026 before growing by 1.7% in 2027 to 61.2 million tonnes. This figure coincided with the September forecast.
