Dusseldorf, Oct 13. (dpa/GNA) – A 16-year-old girl has been sexually harassed by a robot, in the western German city of Cologne, police said on Monday.
The robot touched the teenager on the bottom, and made thrusting movements, the police said in a statement. They are now investigating on suspicion of sexual harassment.
The teenager had been standing outside a fast-food restaurant with two friends on Saturday night, when the red and gold robot approached her from behind, according to the statement.
The 16-year-old owner of the device and his 19-year-old companion are said to have filmed the incident, streamed it live on social media, and provided commentary.
Police officers apprehended the suspects shortly afterwards near the scene of the incident. They found the 1.2-metre-tall robot in the boot of a car, where the 16-year-old is said to have stowed it.
In addition to the robot, the police also seized the suspects’ mobile phones.
The police are now investigating whether the robot’s movements were being deliberately controlled.
