Techiman (Bono East), Oct. 15, GNA-Mr Kingsford Opoku Gyamfi, the Bono East Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) programme has increase in membership renewal of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Region.

He lauded the implementation of the FPHC, saying that the region had over one million active memberships in the half of 2026, pushing the progressive attainment of the Universal Health Coverage.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, Mr Gyamfi stressed the NHIA’s commitment to facilitate the smooth implementation of the FPHC to achieve useful health outcomes in Bono East.

He said so far, the FPHC programme was being piloted in five districts and municipalities in the region namely Sene East, Sene West, Pru East and Pru West Districts and Atebubu-Amantin Municipality.

Mr Gyamfi said the government had released about GHS35 million for the implementation of the programme in the country.

“In fact, the local communities here are enjoying the programme”, he stated, adding that the programme had removed financial barriers in accessing healthcare delivery, saying that “all what you need is a national ID like Ghana card or the NHIS card”.

Mr Gyamfi added that: “Even in instances where one does not have an ID card, he or she can still access healthcare”, however encouraged those who had not registered with the NHIS to do so.
