Commercial drivers, traders appeal for waste containers at Berekum Lorry Station

Berekum, (Bono), Oct. 14, GNA – Some commercial drivers and traders at the Berekum Main Lorry Station have called on the Berekum Municipal Assembly to improve sanitation at the station.

They appealed for waste containers and dustbins to prevent littering and indiscriminate refuse disposal, worrying that some residents dumped household waste at the station.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Berekum, Madam Abena, a popular bread seller at the station, regretted that some residents also dump household waste into gutters due to lack of the waste containers.

Mr Oppong Adu, a commercial driver, expressed similar sentiments, and called on the Municipal Assembly to address the problem and to improve the sanitation situation at the station.

He said because of the lack of dustbins, some of the drivers littered around, and that without the dustbins, it would be unreasonable for the Assembly to enforce its byelaws on sanitation.

Mr Adu said it was disheartening that some of the drivers ought to sweep and keep the station clean every morning.
