Weta (V/R), Oct. 25, GNA – Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged aspirants in the party’s constituency executive elections to accept the outcomes and work together to strengthen the party.
He said the elections, being held across all 276 constituencies nationwide, were internal party affairs that required fairness, neutrality and unity among members.
Mr Nketia made the remarks at the Ketu North Constituency Delegates Conference at Weta in the Volta Region on Sunday.
He explained that he had deliberately refrained from attending constituency elections across the country to avoid influencing delegates’ choices or appearing to favour candidates.
He said his position as National Chairman required him to remain neutral so he could reconcile members after the elections and unite the party, regardless of the outcomes.
“Everybody in the NDC is my friend and family member. If I select some of you and call you my friends, it means the others are my enemies, but I believe all of you are my friends,” he said.
Mr Nketia noted that supporting particular candidates could undermine his ability to bring the party together, whether those candidates won or lost.
He urged aspirants who failed to win their respective positions not to interpret the outcome as a rejection, stressing that only one person could occupy a particular position at a time.
He encouraged them to remain committed to the party, adding that those who lost could have opportunities to serve in other capacities in the future.
Mr Nketia also urged delegates to allow the best candidates to emerge and appealed to all aspirants to accept the results in good faith.
He said the success of the elections should not be measured solely by who won but also by how the winners and losers worked together afterwards.
“What matters is not who wins, but how that person wins and how we are able to put the party together after the election,” he said.
Mr Nketia expressed confidence that the NDC would emerge stronger from the exercise, adding that the party would ultimately benefit if members remained united.
