Akatsi (VR), Oct. 27, GNA – The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has proposed a digital skills and capacity-building programme for 20 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The initiative is aimed at strengthening business development as well as improving access to trade opportunities.

Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the initiative was among the activities outlined in the Assembly’s 2027 Composite Programme-Based Budget.

The programme has a proposed allocation of GH¢2,000 from the Assembly’s funding sources, according to the budget presentation.

Mr Dagba said the initiative was intended to enhance access to trade and commerce, with digital skills training offering businesses opportunities to improve their operations and adapt to changing market conditions.

The Assembly participated in the 2027–2030 Regional Composite Budget Hearing held at the Anloga District Assembly Conference Hall, Anloga.

The hearing was organised by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, to quality-assure and validate the alignment of the Assemblies’ budgets with national priority areas and their respective District Medium-Term Development Plans (DMTDPs).

The exercise formed part of efforts to promote effective budget planning, strengthen accountability and ensure that development priorities are adequately reflected in resource allocation to support sustainable development across the municipality.

Mr Dagba said the Assembly had also outlined other economic development interventions, including the ongoing construction of a 24-hour economy model market at Akatsi, market infrastructure improvements, and support for climate-smart crop varieties and intercropping to promote food security.

The proposed interventions form part of the Assembly’s broader development priorities for 2027–2030, with emphasis on local economic growth and improved livelihoods.
