Ve-Deme (V/R), Oct. 05, GNA– The Afadzato South District Assembly has handed over a two–unit Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre with ancillary facilities to the Ve-Deme Primary School.
The facility forms part of 20 development projects being commissioned and handed over across the district in the first phase of its development agenda.
The projects, which include classroom blocks, teachers’ bungalows, and mechanised boreholes, are aimed at improving education and social infrastructure.
It is equipped with computers, furniture, and internet connectivity to facilitate teaching and learning of ICT at the basic level.
At the handing over ceremony, the Chief of Ve-Deme, Torgbui Afede V, commended government for the intervention, saying the ultra-modern edifice would help transform digital education for pupils within the community.
Torgbui Afede stated that the community had long appealed for an ICT Centre to enhance digital literacy among pupils.
He expressed gratitude to the government under President John Dramani Mahama and the District Assembly for responding to their needs.
He said previously, pupils had to travel long distances to access computers, which affected their practical knowledge in ICT and assured the Assembly that the traditional authorities would ensure proper maintenance of the facility.
Mr Manfred Tawiah, the District Chief Executive for Afadzato South, said the Assembly was committed to bridging the digital divide between rural and urban schools, adding that investment in ICT at the basic level was critical to preparing children for the digital future.
Mr Tawiah urged teachers and pupils to make effective use of the facility and to take good care of it to prolong its lifespan.
He said the Assembly would continue to roll out more projects in the second phase of its development plan.
