Ve-Golokuati (V/R), Oct. 26, GNA – The Afadzato South District Assembly has distributed about 1,600 dual desks to basic schools across the district to address the furniture deficit and improve teaching and learning.

The desks were distributed under the leadership of Mr Manfred Tawiah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afadzato South,

Mr Tawiah, who was confirmed as DCE for Afadzato South, said the intervention is part of the Assembly’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the district.

He said the Assembly, through its budgetary allocation, is funding the provision of 1,600 school furniture units.

The distribution is expected to end the situation where pupils had to carry desks to school or sit on the floor and make classrooms more comfortable and conducive for learning.

Beneficiary schools are drawn from communities across the district, including Ve-Golokuati, Have, Tafi, Liati, Nyagbo, Logba and other areas.

The Assembly says this is part of ongoing efforts to provide all schools in the district with adequate furniture.

Mr Tawiah has in recent months been inspecting and commissioning development projects in the district, including the 24-Hour Economy Market Project at Ve-Golokuati, water projects and teachers’ bungalows, as part of efforts to make Afadzato South a model district.

Education stakeholders in the district have lauded the gesture, noting that it will significantly improve enrolment, attendance and academic performance.

Meanwhile, the DCE has announced plans to replace teachers’ tables and chairs in schools across the district.

According to Mr Tawiah, the existing furniture is in poor condition and needs to be replaced to provide teachers with a more comfortable and conducive working environment.

He said the initiative forms part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and enhance teaching and learning conditions in the district.
