Techiman (Bono East) Oct. 12, GNA-Academic work has resumed in some basic schools in the Techiman metropolis of the Bono East Region, as Teacher unions call off their industrial action.
During a visit on Monday, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noticed that teaching and learning were progressing in the basic schools.
Some of the schools visited comprise the Baptist Primary and Junior High School (JHS) at the Techiman Hausa Zongo as well as the Akumfi Ameyaw Cluster and the Methodist Cluster of School in the Metropolis.
Pupils and their teachers were sighted busily undertaking academic work with most of the especially the JHS levels in full capacity.
Madam Comfort Ohenewaa, the Headmistress of the Baptist Primary and School said she was happy about the resumption of school activities, saying that the teachers remained committed to redouble their efforts.
She noted that education remained the bedrock to facilitate progressive and sustainable national development and should not be compromised in any way.
Madam Ohenewaa noted that although attendance, especially at the lower primary level had been low, she was hopeful that many pupils would report to school within the week and commended the teachers for responding to the call and to end the strike.
When contacted, Mr Yaw Asamoah, the Techiman Metropolitan Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) commended the government for responding to the concerns of the teacher unions.
“It is refreshing to hear the government is prepared to understand and address the plight of teachers”, he stated.
