Wa, (UW/R), Sept. 28, GNA – The University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) School of Law has received a major boost in its academic resources following the donation of over 1,000 assorted law textbooks and casebooks.
The books donated by Mr Kizito Beyuo, a legal practitioner from the Upper West Region, included The All-England Law Reports, Halsbury’s Laws of England, Family Law Reports, The Criminal Law Review, Family Court Reports and Butterworths Family Law Service, among others.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Job Asante, the Registrar of UBIDS, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa.
According to the statement, Mr Beyuo said the donation was inspired by his desire to support quality teaching, learning and research, particularly among law students at UBIDS.
He said his academic and professional development was largely shaped by access to books during his studies and expressed the hope that the gesture would contribute to producing leading legal scholars from the school and the region.
“I have been a true beneficiary of reading books in the Law School, and that is what has made me what I am today, in the near future, the best Law scholars should come from the Upper West Region of Ghana,” he said.
Receiving the books on behalf of the School, Professor Issaka Kanton Osumanu, Pro Vice-Chancellor of UBIDS, expressed appreciation for the gesture, as it would help strengthen the academic resources available to students at the School of Law.
He said access to current relevant textbooks and casebooks was particularly important to legal education, where students were required to engage critically with statutes, judicial decisions, legal principles and scholarly interpretations.
Professor John Baloro, the Dean of the School of Law, said the books would serve as valuable resources for classroom instruction, independent study, legal research and academic writing to complement the school’s resources.
Mr Tinus Tuozie, the President of the Law Students Union, UBIDS, also expressed appreciation to Mr Beyuo and his law firm for supporting legal education at UBIDS.
“The only way to update the software in one’s head, which is our brain, is through reading, and this gesture helps us to do exactly that,” he said.
