Tiwii (UWR), Sept. 28, GNA – Mr Mohammed Adams Sukparu, Member of Parliament for Sissala West Constituency, has called for calm following a land-related dispute between the Buo and Tiwii communities in the Sissala West District.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, reportedly left two people dead and others injured.
Mr Sukparu, in a statement, expressed concern over the development, extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The statement said he had been informed that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the District Security Council (DISEC) had deployed personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to the affected communities to help restore and maintain calm.
It urged residents of Buo, Tiwii and neighbouring communities to exercise restraint and avoid retaliation, provocation or any action that could escalate tensions.
Mr Sukparu appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, the youth, women and other stakeholders in the area to use their influence to promote peace and prevent further escalation.
He said differences between the communities should not lead to further loss of lives or damage to property and urged residents and all parties involved to cooperate fully with the security agencies investigating the incident.
The statement called on anyone with information relevant to the dispute to provide it to the appropriate authorities to assist with investigations and ensure that due process was followed.
It said security personnel would remain in the affected communities while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continued.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Superintendent Franklin Kofi Selby, Sissala West District Commander of the Ghana Police Service, said the police were on the ground providing 24-hour security and that there had been no further skirmishes.
He encouraged residents to go about their normal activities.
