Washington, Sept 20. (dpa/GNA) – US President Donald Trump, is immediately barring the major US media outlets CNN, MS NOW and Politico from accessing the White House, accusing them of spreading fake news, according to a post on Friday on his Truth Social network.
“Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,” Trump wrote. He said other media outlets would be banned, but did not supply any names.
“Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow,” he posted. Such an action is likely to be met with legal challenges, as the United States First Amendment provides for freedom of the press.
Last year, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced new rules for reporters who cover the Pentagon.
He required journalists to sign a document acknowledging restrictions on gathering information that the department had not authorized access to.
Most major news outlets refused to sign, and vacated their desks in the Pentagon’s press room.
