London, Aug 31. (dpa/GNA) – Another tanker has been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.
The vessel was struck by an unknown projectile off the coast of Oman, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said late on Sunday.
According to the report, the incident took place on Saturday, 12 nautical miles north of the town of al-Khasab.
There are currently no reports of injuries or environmental damage, the UKMTO added on X. Authorities are reportedly investigating the incident, but it remains unclear who was responsible for the attack.
Iran is still largely blocking traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, with threats and attacks on ships, as a result of its war with the United States. The waterway is a vital passage for oil, gas and fertilizer exports from the Gulf states.
In a further statement, the UKMTO said attacks, attempted attacks and harassment by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the Strait of Hormuz were continuing, including drone overflights, targeted surveillance of merchant vessels and occasional radio transmissions.
This indicates that Iran intends to maintain pressure on vessels passing through the strait, the UKMTO said.
Commercial traffic remains at a reduced level, albeit with a slight increase compared with recent lows.
