Accra, Sept. 18, GNA – The National Sports Authority (NSA) has denied allegations against its Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and some staff, over an alleged visa facilitation scheme linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to a statement released by the NSA Management, Mr Ampofo Ankrah had not granted any media interviews on what it described as false claims.
“The NSA legal team is cooperating with police investigation. The Director General has not granted any interview to any media house on the false allegation.
“Treat such reckless news with the contempt it deserves,” the NSA management said in a statement.
The statement came after Ghana’s Minority in Parliament called for Mr Ankrah’s immediate suspension or dismissal over alleged fraud connected to a visa facilitation arrangement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, that was hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
According to the Minority, information available to it suggested that some individuals were charged as much as $8,000 each for assistance with travel and visa-related arrangements linked to the tournament.
The minority caucus called on the government to either remove Ankrah from office or have him step aside while investigations continue, arguing that such a move would help ensure transparency in the probe.
