Twedie (Ash), Sept. 18, GNA – A team from the Korea Climate Change initiative, in collaboration with the EWC Consortium, Korea, has begun a feasibility study to explore sustainable solutions to water supply challenges in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.
The study is assessing the quality and availability of water resources in the district to generate reliable data on access to potable water and identify communities requiring targeted interventions.
The team made this known when it paid a working visit to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mrs. Grace Agyemang Asamoah, to engage the Assembly on the exercise.
The delegation said accurate and reliable information from the Assembly would be critical to the success of the feasibility study and appealed for the timely provision of relevant data and institutional support.
The initiative, being pursued by the EWC Consortium with support from the Government of Korea and relevant agencies, seeks to establish a decentralised water supply system, including water kiosks, to improve access to safe and potable water in communities.
The proposed system would be powered by solar energy to promote environmental sustainability and reduce reliance on conventional electricity.
A card-based billing system would also be introduced to facilitate convenient access to water and payment by users.
The team disclosed that a pilot of the proposed system had commenced in the Mampong Municipality and would be assessed to determine its effectiveness before consideration for rollout to other parts of the country.
Ms. Catherine Chu, the leader of the delegation, urged the Assembly to take advantage of the initiative and collaborate closely with the consortium to ensure that the proposed intervention addressed the actual water needs of residents.
She said the provision of accurate information and institutional support would be essential to the successful completion of the feasibility study and implementation of any subsequent intervention.
Mrs. Asamoah expressed appreciation to the delegation for considering the district for the initiative and welcomed the proposed intervention.
She assured the team of the Assembly’s full support and cooperation, pledging to fast-track the provision of the relevant information required to facilitate the smooth execution of the feasibility study.
Mrs. Asamoah said access to safe and reliable drinking water was fundamental to the health, dignity, and socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
She expressed optimism that the proposed decentralised water supply system would help address water challenges, particularly in underserved communities within the district.
