Nkwanta North (O/R), Sept 8, GNA – The Nkwanta North District Assembly has handed over 1,000 bags of fertilizers comprising Urea and NPK to the District Directorate of Agriculture for distribution to farmers across the district.
The intervention, led by Mr Isaiah Kudjoe Dordoe, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North, is aimed at supporting farmers with critical agricultural inputs to improve crop yields, increase food production, and strengthen household livelihoods.
The fertilizer was formally handed over to Mr Ali Yaro, District Director of Agriculture, for onward distribution to farmers, chiefs and opinion leaders in various communities within the district.
The initiative is expected to provide some relief to farmers who require fertilizer and other inputs to improve soil fertility and crop productivity during the farming season.
Mr Yaro, receiving the fertilizer on behalf of the Directorate, expressed appreciation to the DCE and the District Assembly for the intervention.
He said the availability of the fertilizer would support farmers to improve their farming activities and contribute to increased agricultural production in the district and assured the Assembly that the Directorate would work with relevant stakeholders for the inputs to be distributed to right beneficiaries.
Some traditional leaders who witnessed the presentation commended the DCE and the Assembly for the intervention, describing it as timely and relevant to the needs of farmers.
They said agriculture remained an important source of livelihood for many households in the district and called for sustained support to farmers through the provision of inputs, extension services and other forms of assistance.
The traditional leaders also urged farmers to make effective use of the fertilizer to improve their yields and contribute to food security in the district.
Mr Dordoe expressed appreciation to the President and the Minister for Food and Agriculture for making the fertilizer available adding that the Assembly recognised the important role agriculture played in the local economy and the livelihoods of residents, particularly smallholder farmers.
The DCE said improving agricultural productivity required strong collaboration among the government, District Assembly, Agriculture Directorate, traditional authorities, farmers, and other development partners.
He, however, appealed for the provision of the remaining 500 bags of fertiliser to enable more farmers across the district to benefit from the intervention.
Mr Dordoe said the additional inputs would broaden the reach of the programme and ensure that more farmers, particularly those in farming communities, received the necessary support to improve production.
He encouraged farmers to work closely with agricultural extension officers to adopt improved farming practices and make judicious use of the inputs provided.
The DCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to collaborating with the Agriculture Directorate, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to promote agriculture, increase food production and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of farmers in the district.
He said the Assembly would continue to explore practical interventions to support farmers and create an enabling environment for agricultural development and sustainable livelihoods in Nkwanta North.
