Frankfurt, Sept 22. (dpa/GNA) – A military jet has crashed at a US air base in western Germany, local authorities said on Tuesday, with one person reportedly injured.
Emergency forces have been deployed to the Spangdahlem airbase, located some 160 kilometres west of Frankfurt near the border with Luxembourg.
Authorities in the Bitburg-Prüm district, where the base is located, said they were unable to provide further details on the incident at the time. The US military has also yet to comment.
The Spangdahlem air base is home to an F-16 fighter jet squadron, comprising around 20 aircraft that support US Air Force and NATO operations worldwide. It is considered one of the US military’s most important air bases.
A US F-16 fighter jet crashed near the airbase during a routine training flight in October 2019, with the pilot able to eject before impact.
