Tema, Sept. 29, GNA – The Melcom Group of Companies has donated welfare and office equipment, including bunk beds and household appliances, to the Tema Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to improve the welfare of firefighters.
The items, presented following a request made by the Command about two months ago, included 30 mattresses, 15 bunk beds, a television set, a refrigerator and an air conditioner.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) II Patrick N. Sallah, Tema Regional Fire Commander, expressed gratitude to the management of Melcom Group for responding to the Command’s request.
ACFO II Sallah said the intervention would help improve the comfort and living conditions of firefighters in the crew room.
“We are so much appreciative of your kind gesture, and we believe that when we call on you again to assist us, just as you have promptly responded to this call, we hope this will not be the last time that you respond to us,” he said.
He stated that the GNFS continued to discharge its duties despite operational challenges, adding that the welfare and working environment of firefighters remained important.
He said government alone could not shoulder all infrastructural and logistical needs, underscoring the importance of private-sector partnerships in supporting public service delivery.
He, therefore, urged other corporate entities and industries operating within the Tema enclave to emulate the gesture and support the Command as firefighters remained ready to respond to emergencies across the region.
