Dzodze (V/R), Sept. 26, GNA – The Ketu North Municipal Assembly has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a 31-year-old female worker who was knocked down by a grader on the Dzodze-Penyi section of the Big Push Road Project.
The deceased, identified as Ms. Mariama Gbemu, a worker of the construction company undertaking the project, died on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Assembly and signed by Reverend Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, said the grader operator, had been arrested and subsequently released on bail to assist with further investigations into the incident.
The Assembly extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, saying it shared their grief during the difficult period.
Reverend Amenaki assured the public that thorough investigations were underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of residents and workers involved in the Big Push Infrastructure Programme.
The Assembly also advised pedestrians and motorists using the Dzodze-Penyi corridor to exercise extreme caution when approaching construction zones.
It cautioned that construction sites were not public thoroughfares, and that unauthorised access could significantly increase the risk of accidents.
The Assembly said a detailed report on the incident would be released after the Police had concluded their investigations.
It urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the investigators to facilitate a swift and transparent process.
