Atababo (W/R), Sept. 30, GNA – Construction works on the Atababo-Mangopase-Mumuni Junction road in the northern part of Aiyinasi in the Ellembelle District are progressing steadily under the Big Push Road infrastructure initiative.
The project is expected to open up the area and improve connectivity between the Ellembelle and Amenfi West districts.
It forms part of the broader national Big Push programme aimed at improving critical road infrastructure across the 16 regions of Ghana.
Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the project during the commissioning of Junior High School blocks at Mandumgbane and Atababo, communities along the stretch.
The project is being implemented by the Department of Feeder Roads under the Ministry of Roads and Highways and has been awarded to Kingspok Construction Limited.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah, who is also the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, said he committed resources to construct the road, which was then largely a bush path, after assuming office as MP in 2009.
He said the road was not motorable and posed challenges to farmers, predominantly cocoa growers, in the area.
The MP said farmers previously had to travel from Aiyinasi through Apemanim Junction to Tarkwa before reaching Asankrangwa and Prestea.
Mr Armah-Kofi Buah said the construction of the road had opened up the northern part of the Ellembelle District to Asankrangwa, Prestea and Tarkwa, easing transportation challenges for farmers and residents.
He said the northern part of Aiyinasi was the food basket of the Ellembelle District, making the construction of the road network critical to the movement of people and agricultural produce.
The MP said commuters now saved time travelling to their destinations compared with the several hours previously spent on the stretch.
