Nkawie (Ash), Sept. 26, GNA – Mr. Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya North, has handed over newly constructed classroom blocks to the Akwaboah and Nketia communities to improve access to basic education.
The projects, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), are intended to address educational infrastructure deficits and create a conducive learning environment for children in the two communities.
At Akwaboah, Mr Alenbilla handed over a six-unit classroom block equipped with a headteacher’s office and teachers’ common room, while the three-unit classroom block at Nketia has a headteacher’s office and teachers’ common room.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony at Akwaboah, Nana Kusi Agyapong Apu I, Akwaboahene and Chairman of the programme, expressed appreciation to the government, the DCE, the District Director of Education, Assembly members and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring the completion of the project.
He said since independence, the community had not benefited from a public school established and handed over to it, compelling children to travel to Pasoro and Ntensere to access basic education.
Nana Kusi said the long distance exposed the pupils to various challenges, including health risks, while some were unable to continue their education.
He expressed optimism that the new classroom block would improve school enrolment and retention in the community.
The Akwaboahene appealed to the Assembly and other stakeholders to consider constructing a Junior High School (JHS) and other complementary facilities to enable children to continue their education within the community.
He also appealed for the construction and completion of the road serving the community to improve accessibility.
Mr. Alenbila said the projects demonstrated the government’s commitment to addressing educational infrastructure gaps, particularly in rural communities.
He expressed appreciation to the traditional authorities for their support, especially the provision of land for the construction of the school facilities.
The DCE urged parents and community members to take ownership of the projects and ensure that the facilities were properly maintained and protected against premature deterioration.
Mr. Frank Duah Boateng, the District Director of Education, commended the government, the DCE, and the chiefs and queen mothers of Akwaboah and Nketia for their support towards the projects.
He said the timely release of land by the traditional authorities contributed significantly to the successful completion of the facilities.
