Bechem, (Bono), Sept. 7, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region says the Assembly is collaborating with the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) for the establishment of a Solar Testing and Training Centers in five communities in the municipality.
He said the setting up of the centers aligned with the implementation of Ghana’s Solar Energy Master Plan, saying that with the center would connect selected public facilities and institutions with solar energy.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bechem, Mr Frimpong said major health facilities, agricultural service centres and bus terminals in the municipality would be equipped with solar energy systems.
That would reduce their dependence on the national electricity grid, he stated, adding that the centers would greatly address power challenges in the area.
Mr Frimpong said that the assembly had also received 220 solar-powered street lights which would be installed at Bechem, the municipal capital, to improve lighting and security.
In a separate interview, Mr Charles Kwasi Asiedu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano South Constituency, said plans were advanced to connect 22 deprived communities in the municipality to the national electricity grid.
He said the project was also under the government’s cost-sharing programme, saying that electricity poles and cables had already been installed in the beneficiary communities, adding that transformers would also be installed soon.
