Kintampo (B/E), Sept. 07, GNA – Mr Emma Kumah, the Assembly Member for the Mo Line Electoral Area in the Kintampo North Municipality has called on the government to do more and to make the agriculture sector appealing to enhance the living standard of the youth in the area.
He said about 80 percent of the unemployed youth in the area ‘survive’ through agriculture and called on the government to provide them with agriculture inputs.
Mr Kumah made the call when speaking at a youth forum organised by the Mo-Dega Youth Association at Kintampo in the Bono East Region on the theme: “Youth and development: Our culture, our future”.
He said agriculture remained the basic occupation of the people urging the government to prioritise the sector and support businesses in the agriculture value chain too.
Mr Kumah also called on the government to expand educational and entrepreneurial support to the youth in the area.
He said the crime wave, like armed robbery in the area, could be reduced if the agriculture sector was made appealing for the youth to venture into agribusinesses.
Mr Kumah also advised the youth against the practice of copying foreign culture blindly and called on the Assembly Members in the area to be innovative and lead the path to community development.
He expressed concern about recurring conflicts between farmers and cattle herders who used their animals to graze farm lands and crops.
Mr Kumah called for dialogue between the cattle herders and the affected communities in resolving the problem.
He also urged effective collaboration between stakeholders like traditional authorities and security agencies towards finding lasting solutions to the cattle grazing activities in the area.
