Sunyani (Bono Region), Aug. 25, GNA – Mr Franklin Ofori Akuffo, Bono Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), has called for public cooperation as the company, in collaboration with Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs), undertakes a massive disinfection exercise across the region.
He said the exercise was aimed at ridding the environment of filth and disease-carrying insects and improving sanitation in public places.
Mr Akuffo explained that the success of the exercise depended largely on the cooperation of traders, market women, transport operators and the public.
He said major lorry terminals, markets, public toilets, refuse container sites and drains would be disinfected to enhance environmental cleanliness and help prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
Mr Akuffo made the call in an interview with the media on the sidelines of the exercise at the Sunyani Central Business District.
As part of the exercise, personnel of Zoomlion disinfected the public toilet facility at the Sunyani-Chiraa Station and major drains within the municipality.
The team is also expected to disinfect the Sunyani Main Market, Nana Bosoma Central Market, satellite markets, and other public toilet facilities during night operations.

Mr Akuffo said the exercise was being carried out simultaneously in all the 12 administrative districts and municipalities of the Bono Region.
He noted that with the rainy season easing, it had become necessary to intensify waste management efforts, keep public places clean, and prevent the possible outbreak of communicable and infectious diseases.
He emphasised that the exercise was being undertaken in the public interest and urged residents to adopt positive sanitation practices, including proper waste disposal.
Mr Akuffo advised households to segregate plastic and other solid waste and avoid littering as well as dumping refuse into drains and gutters.
In a separate interview, Mrs Medina Doku, Bono Regional Environmental Health Officer, commended Zoomlion for the initiative and called for public support to ensure its success.
She reminded the public that environmental sanitation offences were punishable by law and urged residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse and littering.
Mrs Doku lauded Zoomlion’s commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness and public health in the region.
