Accra, Oct. 17, GNA – The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has appointed Kim Lars Björkegren to lead an interim Black Stars technical team for Ghana’s 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against Somalia in November.
Björkegren would be assisted by former Ghana international Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram, while Fatawu Dauda would serve as goalkeepers coach.
The appointment follows a recommendation by the Black Stars Coach Search Committee after what it described as extensive review and consultations with several qualified coaching candidates.
According to a joint statement issued by the GFA, Sports Ministry and the Search Committee, the interim arrangement is intended to provide continuity, experienced leadership and strategic direction during a period of transition for the senior national team.
The statement said the composition of the technical team brings together international experience, local knowledge and technical expertise needed to prepare the Black Stars for the upcoming fixture.
Additional multidisciplinary technical and support staff are expected to be assigned to the team for the November international window.
The interim arrangement would apply specifically to the November fixtures while the Search Committee continues its work to appoint a substantive technical team.
The GFA, Sports Ministry and Search Committee said they remained committed to providing the Black Stars and Black Queens with the necessary technical and operational support to achieve their respective objectives.
They also urged Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars and the technical team as they prepare for the November international window.
