Nkonsia, (Bono), Aug 28, GNA-The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region has cleared an old-age refuse dumpsite at Nkonsia in the municipality to avert the outbreak of communicable and infectious diseases.
Sanitation personnel of the assembly used earth moving machines to clear accumulated waste and plastic materials and dump them at the assembly’s disposal site to improve sanitation and hygiene in the township.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the exercise, Ms Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive said the assembly had prioritized proper waste management and sanitation.
She reaffirmed the assembly’s dedication to maintaining clean, sanitation improved and healthy communities in the municipality, noting that clearing the refuse dump sites in the area would control the spread of malaria, outbreak of cholera and typhoid.
Ms Gyamfi urged the community members to refrain from littering and dumping refuse and plastic waste haphazardly.
She appealed for stakeholders’ support towards improving sanitation and plastic waste management.
