Tema, Sept. 19, GNA – The 2026 World Congress of the Assemblies of God Fellowship has been urged to use the international gathering in Accra to address critical social, economic and governance challenges confronting Africa.
The call was contained in a position paper by Brother Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg of the AfriKan Continental Union Consult (ACUC), Ghana, ahead of the World Congress scheduled for October 14 to 16, 2026.
The paper, titled: “Rekindling Azusa Street in Accra 2026: A Prophetic Call for the Gospel to Speak to the Condition and Future of Africa,” said the Congress should provide a platform to examine the living conditions of Africans and explore how Christian institutions could contribute to improving them.
It identified youth unemployment, responsible management of natural resources, peace and security, and social justice as key issues that should receive attention at the gathering.
The paper said the role of the Church should extend beyond prayer and religious gatherings to practical interventions that addressed human suffering, noting that millions of Africans continued to experience hunger, unemployment, homelessness, disease, insecurity, exclusion and despair.
Drawing inspiration from the ministry of Jesus Christ and His response to hunger, sickness, marginalisation and injustice, it said Christian faith should be demonstrated through service and care for communities.
The paper also called on Church leaders to use their platforms to promote good governance and accountability by speaking against corruption and advocating the protection of vulnerable people, justice and opportunities for the youth.
It questioned how Christian values were reflected in the conduct of Christians holding public office and whether their faith translated into greater integrity, accountability, justice and improved conditions for vulnerable people.
The paper proposed that the Congress could culminate in an “Accra Call,” comprising a series of Christian messages on good governance, peace and African unity.
It said the international gathering presented an opportunity for Ghana and the African Church to demonstrate practical Christian hospitality and build lasting relationships among delegates beyond the Congress.
The 2026 World Congress of the Assemblies of God Fellowship is scheduled to take place in Accra.
