University talent hunt to unearth, mentor young creatives

Accra, Aug. 14, GNA – Nestlé Ghana Limited has launched a nationwide university talent discovery initiative aimed at identifying, nurturing and mentoring young creatives across tertiary institutions in the country.

The programme, dubbed “My Coffee, My Vibe,” seeks to provide a platform for students with exceptional singing and dancing abilities to showcase their talents, receive professional mentorship and compete for prizes that could help launch their creative careers.

The initiative was officially launched at the University of Ghana t and is expected to be rolled out at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Ghana.

Speaking at the launch, Ms Lily Boatemaa Ntim, Category Development Manager for Nescafé at Nestlé Ghana, said the programme was designed not only to engage young people but also to help them identify and develop their talents while still pursuing their academic studies.

She noted that many young people possess remarkable abilities that often remain hidden due to a lack of opportunities, exposure and mentorship.

“We are creating a platform for students to showcase their talents and gain access to opportunities that can help transform their passion into something meaningful,” she said.

According to Ms Ntim, participants would audition by submitting a 45-second video of their performance through Nescafé Ghana’s social media platforms.

The online submissions would enable organisers to identify promising talents before engaging them on the various university campuses and selecting candidates for further mentorship and the final competition.

The winners from participating universities would compete in a national finale, where outstanding performers in both the singing and dancing categories would receive cash prizes worth GH¢30,000, brand souvenirs and mentorship support from professionals in their respective fields.

Ms Ntim said a key objective of the initiative was to encourage young people to recognise their talents early and harness them as viable opportunities for personal growth and economic empowerment.

“We do not want young people to wait until they complete school before pursuing what they are passionate about. Through this initiative, we want them to understand that their talents can become opportunities for growth and income generation,” she said.

She explained that beyond the competition, participants would gain confidence, exposure and practical guidance that could help them navigate careers in the creative industry.

The programme also seeks to inspire students to balance academic pursuits with the development of their personal talents, while encouraging innovation, self-expression and entrepreneurship among Ghana’s youth.

Ms Ntim described the initiative as a pilot project, expressing optimism that its success would pave the way for expansion to more tertiary institutions across the country in the coming years.

She said by investing in young talent, Nestlé Ghana hoped to contribute to the development of the country’s creative sector while empowering a new generation of performers to realise their full potential.
